OKHT 2002 Like Fine Kentucky Bourbon
by Kathy Schmitt,
Chair, Old Kentucky Home Tour
Like fine Kentucky Bourbon, the Old Kentucky Home Tour has
aged 25 years.
Mark your calendars, the 2002 Old Kentucky Home Tour is
scheduled for Sept. 7-8. If you thought it was fun last year,
wait ‘til you see what we have in store for you in 2002.
The Tour will start and end at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park
with three fully supported routes to Bardstown on Saturday —
55, 70, or 100 miles, and all riders return on the same 55-mile
route on Sunday. New this year: the OKHT is adding a 100-mile
Time-Trial! This is a USA Cycling-sanctioned event (USA Cycling
License required, available day of ride) and promises to be a
very exciting addition — attracting Mad Dogs from all over the
region.
An awesome, commemorative jersey will be available for
purchase (see the 2002 jersey design). Each ride participant
will receive a cool T-shirt, music and refreshments at all sags,
a fabulous lunch on Saturday, entertainment, carriage rides,
bourbon tasting, and food in Bardstown Saturday afternoon and
evening, Chris Cakes pancake breakfast, the legendary Cookie
Stop, and a party at Sawyer Park Sunday afternoon. The OKHT
welcomes back Scheller’s
Fitness and Cycling and Baptist
East/Milestone Wellness Center as two of our Supporting Sponsors
for this year’s ride. Rides will be scheduled from these sponsor
locations in July and August, check the touring schedule.
Millenium Sport
and Import will again be sponsoring the carriage
rides in Bardstown, and Nancy’s Bagels and Heine Brothers will
provide bagels and coffee for breakfast on Saturday. We welcome
Clarksville Schwinn as a new sponsor for our post-ride pizza
party. Thanks also to Buffalo
Trace Bourbon for sponsoring the bourbon tasting.
This kind of support is what makes this ride one of a kind.
Please thank and support them.
Finally, to help make this ride a success, we need volunteers.
In case you forgot, volunteers ride free! Be part of the
fun and contact Kathy Schmitt or Billie Beachy to volunteer.
