From the Presidentby Earl Jones
It turns out that cycling can save more than your life. An article in a recent edition of USA Today reported that impotence in men was correlated to waist size. In other words, so-called "love handles" are inaccurately named. Talk about news that can help membership development! And what better way to reduce love handles or meet another objective than to set a goal, like riding to Bardstown and back in September on the Old Kentucky Home Bicycle Tour. If you know anyone who needs help getting started, tell him (or her) to start training now by joining us on our regular club rides. Speaking of which, the Tuesday evening Cherokee Park rides have exceeded all expectations in terms of participation. The rides leave from Hogan's Fountain every Tuesday at 6:30. If you haven't done so, check them out. And bring a friend. These are some of the best rides to get introduced to the Club. I hope you saw the June issue of Louisville Magazine, which promoted cycling as a way of getting away from it all and discussed our Club as the passport. Readers were urged to join the Club and train for OKHT. The good publicity continues to increase. If you missed the Bike Yard Sale on the Great Lawn, held on May 27, you missed the opportunity to sell or trade unneeded bike stuff and to buy stuff cheap. Old jerseys, saddles, gloves, pedals, bike racks, you name it. This was the first bike swap, which has the potential to become a big annual event. Many thanks to Cheryl Brawner, Jackie Green and Penny DuBarry, who worked with the City of Louisville and co-sponsor Kentucky Mountain Bike Association (KyMBA) to pull off the event. As usual, Jim McDonald has pulled together a great touring schedule for the next two months. Among the highlights:
Happy Riding!
