Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Promotes Bike-to-Work Weekby Jackie GreenChair, Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee
Well done, Louisville! Following up on a great bicycle presence this Earth Day at the zoo (40+ bikes, two dozen volunteers), we successfully caught community attention with a three-week build-up to National Bike-to-Work Week. We began the promotional on a damp Monday morning, April 24, with Art Williams, Director of Jefferson County Air Pollution Control District, and successfully crossed the finish line three weeks later with only one rain out. We had great support from the cycling public leaders listed below (check out May 11 - a dozen of us cycled in together), BPAC members, friends & the press. The promotion was covered by the Courier-Journal, LEO, and TV news (on three days). A special thanks to Barry Zalph, friend and trail-guide. Apr 24 - Art Williams, Director, Air Pollution Control District On to our next successes - the Bike Yard Sale on the Great Lawn (May 27) and "In Town, Without a Car," an auto-free day (www.22september.org).
