Ride of Silence

On Wednesday evening, May 18 at 7:00 pm, cyclists in Louisville will join those in over 50 other cities in the U.S. and Canada, in a slow, silent ride to remember those injured or killed while cycling on the public roadways. The ride will begin and end at Cox’s Park, across River Road from the Indian Hills Police Station, and will process downtown and back via the park trails, River Road, Witherspoon, Clay and Jefferson streets. It’s a flat, 10-mile loop that we’ll ride slowly and silently, two abreast, in unity with those participating across the country.

The purposes of the ride are to honor those who have been injured or kllled, to raise awareness of cyclists and our rights to the public roads and to demonstrate courtesy and responsibiity as we share the road.

We have asked for assistance from the Louisville Metro Police, and they are working on a plan to accompany the ride, with both motorized and bike patrol participation. The media will also be notified of the ride, and we hope for positive coverage of the event.

This ride is not meant to be a confrontation. The intent is to honor those hurt or killed, and to ask for respect from the community by showing respect as we ride.
