As I look out the window and see snow on the ground, I know winter is upon us. But even though the weather outside is frightful, the LBC touring program for January/February has plenty of activities to keep us as active as we want to be. Here are some highlights on the January/February schedule. First of all, January 1 wouldnt be the same without the Polar Bear Ride. Gil Morris is once again sponsoring our traditional ride to ring in the new millennium. This is one of those rides that you should do no matter what the weather. In fact, the worse the weather is, the better story you have to tell when youre done. Come out to Highland Cycle and join in the tradition! Since most of us dont want to ride in the cold and dark of the weeknight, drive your car instead to Broadway Baptist Church. Trainer tours are scheduled there every Tuesday and Thursday night in January and February. You can enjoy riding with your friends in about 70 degrees, just like in the spring! No booties, no hats and gloves, just bring your bike and your trainer (or rollers if you prefer) and ride as far and as hard as you like. These are a GREAT way to keep in shape over the winter. If you havent tried it, come out once, I bet youll be back. Want something different? When is the last time you were ice-skating? We have four nights on the schedule in January and February where we will meet at the Pantherland ice rink and try out our skate legs. There are lots of weekend and Wednesday morning rides on the schedule as well, both on and off-road. Did you know you burn more calories in cold weather than in warm weather? So stay on your bike, youll be glad you did come spring. Speaking of spring, the next Touring Committee meeting is Saturday, February 3rd, at Panera Bread on Dutchmans Lane. Come out and help us plan the rides and events for March and April. We need your participation! See you on the road.
