July-August 1998 NewsletterVolunteerby Don Williams
The May 4 issue of USA Fax Times recently had a column expounding upon the advantages of volunteerism from The National Institute for Fitness and Sport. It was noted that devoting time to volunteer work did not require a major restructuring of one’s life, however, it did provide a change in perspective. Benefits noted in favor of volunteering:
Ninety-five percent of volunteers were found to experience a “helper’s high,” beginning with a burst of energy and exhilaration, followed by a longer-lasting, heightened sense of calm and well-being. The reward? Simple volunteer tasks will help our Club immensely. For Touring, as a Ride Captain or Touring Committee member, for Racing as a Corner Marshal, Time Trial worker or participant, for Education as a mentor for new cyclists. Beginning and inexperienced cyclists continue to come out to Bike Skills Classes on Monday nights. Intermediate cyclists are set this month to begin learning necessary skills that come with riding in a group and at higher speeds. Mentors and instructors remain in constant demand. Contact Glenn Todd at 897-5406. Time Trials run once a month, Cheryl Brawner could use a few good hands to work the corners and the start line. Cheryl’s number is 459-9949. New routes, new roads, new perspectives new Ride Captains are needed for Touring. The next Touring schedule is available on the web or at the next club ride. Contact Adrian Freund at 231-1083. Why not come out and share your experience? |
